Srinagar, May 5 (UNI) Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) chairman Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai, detained under Public Safety Act (PSA), died in a Jammu hospital this afternoon.
Sehrai was shifted from Kotbalwal jail, Jammu, to Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu last night after his condition deteriorated. However, the senior separatist leader, a close confident of Syed Ali Shah Geelani, died this afternoon around 1205 hrs.
His son Junaid Ashraf Sehrai, who had joined Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) was killed in an encounter in May last year in the Nawa Kadal area in the downtown.
Meanwhile, Apni Party (AP) President Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari has expressed deep shock and grief over the demise of Sehrai, who passed away at a Jammu hospital today.
In a condolence message issued here, Bukhari extended solidarity with the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul. “I pray to almighty Allah to grant Jannat to Sehrai Saheb, and give courage to his family to bear this huge loss. Apni Party stands in solidarity with Sehrai Saheb’s family at this difficult period of time,” he added.
