Chhatrasal Stadium fight: Sushil Kumar’s clarification: The 37-year-old said that his wrestlers were not part of the fight that took place inside the stadium on Tuesday night.
“They weren’t our wrestlers, it happened late last night. We have informed police officials that some unknown people jumped into our premises and fought. No connection of our stadium with this incident,” Sushil said.
According to sources, the brawl happened due to factionalism between two groups of wrestlers at the Model Town Stadium. Reportedly the groups have had tension for a long time.
The stadium houses nearly 100 wrestlers and is one of the famous wrestling academies of India. Sushil is also a product of the academy and India’s most successful wrestler. He is the first Indian to win two Olympic medals and also the first wrestler to become a world champion (2010).
He won a silver medal in the 2012 London Olympics, and four years earlier, he had taken home a bronze medal in Beijing Olympics.
