Hyderabad: The announcement for the election of mayor and deputy mayor as well as the chairman and vice-chairman of the urban bodies (ULBs), who recently held elections, was announced on Friday. State Election Commissioner C Parthasarathi instructed the officials concerned to keep the election rigorous Covid-19 guidelines.
The SEC held a video conference on Wednesday with the district collectors, commissioners of police, superintendents of police and municipal commissioners of the districts concerned to review the arrangements for the election. Officials said all arrangements had been made for the election of mayor and deputy mayor of the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation and Khammam Municipal Corporation, as well as the election of chairperson and deputy chairperson of the municipalities of Achampet, Siddipet, Nakrekal, Jadcherla and Kothur. These elections will take place after the newly elected ward members have sworn in.
Those elected in their respective ULBs could be eligible for mayors and deputy mayors and positions as chairperson and deputy chairperson. The ward members, MLAs, MLCs and ex-officio members can vote in the election according to their party whip, the SEC explained.
At least half of the persons entitled to vote must be present at the election to maintain the quorum, and if the quorum is not fulfilled, the election must be held the next day. The election chairperson will inform ward members and others of the day and time of the meeting one day before the election.
The political parties must submit A-forms by 11:00, one day before the election date, and B-forms by 10:00 on election day. Strict security arrangements must be made, except to disinfect the meeting room, to provide face masks and face shields to the members.
The members who tested positive for the Covid-19 and were in the house quarantine, they had to be allowed to swear in a similar manner by means of a video call and vote in the election. Those who covid norms should be discussed under appropriate sections, Parthasarathi said.
