The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has postponed the Indian Premier League 2021 till further notice. This decision has been taken after a dent in the bio bubble.
IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders’ spinner Varun Chakraborty, fast bowler Sandeep Warrier, CSK Chief Executive Officer Kashi Vishwanathan, Laxmipathy Balaji, and a bus cleaner are said to have tested positive for Covid-19. BCCI and IPL GC decided to postpone the IPL 2021 season to protect the rest of the players and others from getting infected.
BCCI Secretary Jay Shah said, “The BCCI and IPL GC have unanimously decided to postpone the IPL 2021 season till further notice”. He also said that they do not want to compromise on the safety of players and all other people involved in IPL.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was eyeing strong earnings from the fourteenth season of the IPL. According to estimates, BCCI could have earned about Rs 4000 crore in revenue in the 14th season of IPL through title sponsorship.

Major Sponsors of IPL
The revenue of the central pool includes the amount of sponsorship money with on-ground activation. BCCI shares 50 percent of the total revenue with franchisees as part of the central pool. In return, the franchisees pay 20 percent of their total revenue to the BCCI. This year there was a reported payment of Rs 3,269.5 crore by Star India to BCCI for the telecast rights of IPL.
At the same time, Vivo was supposed to get 440 crore rupees. The official sponsors of IPL 14 are Upstocks, Dream 11, Unacademy, Tata Motors and CRED, which were estimated to fetch Rs 220 crore. Apart from this, there are many more sponsors like Biju, PhonePe, Just Dial, Vimal Cardamom, Bingo, Havells Fans, Farmegee.

IPL teams earn from many different sources. These include advertisements, broadcast rights, ticket sales, prize money, and earnings from the sale of team merchandise. Apart from sponsors for the tournament, different companies join the IPL teams as sponsors.
For this, they give money to the teams, in return, the teams give them space to advertise. Under the sponsorship, the team’s jersey bears the company’s logo. Many companies pay for the jersey. The main sponsor has a place on the front of the jersey. Alike, whoever gives the money is given the same place on the jersey.
For example, the principal sponsors of Mumbai Indians include Samsung and ColorsTV. Associate Partners are Marriott Bonvoy, Jio, and Astral Pipes. Official sponsors include Kingfisher Calendars, USHA, Dairy Milk, Colgate, William Lawson’s Music CDs, Dream 11, BKT, Make My Trip, Kotak Myntra, Boat, My Dubai, Performax, ESA, DNA Networks, Radio City 91.1 FM and 104 FM. Similarly, Delhi Capital has tied up with 25 sponsors.

Broadcasting partner Star India signed 18 sponsors
The rights to broadcast IPL are currently with Star India. There is a five-year agreement between Star and BCCI. Star had taken these rights in the year 2018 for more than 16 thousand crores rupees.
Broadcasting rights simply mean which channel the IPL will appear on. Star Sports had signed 18 sponsors and more than 100 advertisers for IPL 14. Sponsors include Dream11, Byju’s, PhonePe, Just Dial, Upstox, Bingo, Kamala Picks, AMFI, Frutti, Asian Paints, Thums Up, Vodafone Idea, Mondelez, Amazon Prime, Creed, Garnier Men, Havells, and Gro.
Advertisers include Edtech, Fantasy Sports, Beverages, Pay Wallets, Home Decor, Telecom, Consumer Durables, FMCG, Financial Services, etc. Star India was eyeing around Rs 200 crore in revenue from the co-presentation of the associate and sponsorship deal.
