Assam class 10th & 12th exams postponed

GUWAHATI: In view of the surging number of Covid positive cases in the state, Assam class 10 and 12 state board exams have been postponed until further orders. Both class 10 and 12 boards were scheduled to begin from May 11, however, the exams have now been differed till further notice.
"In view of the prevailing situation of Covid-19 in the state of Assam, it has been decided to postpone the HSLC/AHM Examination 2021, scheduled to be held from 11th May 2021," read the notification issued by the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (Seba) secretary, Suranjana Senapati on Tuesday.
The order mentioned that the revised schedule of the class 10 boards conducted by Seba will be announced shortly after consultation with the state health department.
The Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) has also ordered the postponement of the class 12 boards, citing the pandemic situation.
AHSEC sources said that the decision was taken by the board, considering the gravity of the Covid situation triggered by the second wave. The positivity rate in Assam has been hovering between 8 to 10 percent, with virus infection penetrating even into the remotest corners of the state.
Soon after the new government takes oath in the state, bold decisions are likely to be announced regarding fresh restrictions.
Earlier, health and education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that any decision on exam postponement will be taken by the new government in the first week of May after taking the oath. But, considering the closure of educational institutions in most districts of Assam, the boards were compelled to put the board exams on hold, sources in the education department said.
