Maharashtra reports 51,880 new COVID cases, 891 deaths

Mumbai, May 4 (UNI) Maharashtra on Wednesday reported 51,880 new COVID-19 cases and 891 deaths in the last 24 hours.
This fresh surge in cases has taken the infections tally to 48,22,992 while the death toll soared to 71,742.
At the same time highest 65,934 peoples recovered from the deadly virus, taking the number of recoveries to 41,07,082 in the state.
The recovery rate which was rising in the previous month has now fallen to 85.16 per cent, owing to the sudden spurt in cases.
On the testing front, as many as 2,81,05,382 people have been tested so far for the virus with the fatality rate standing at 1.49 per cent.
The state still has an active caseload of 6,41,910 patients, undergoing treatment at different Covid Care Centres and hospitals.
