Thomasin McKenzie to lead Kerri Strug biopic Perfect; Olivia Wilde confirmed to direct
Perfect, biopic on retired American gymnast Kerri Strug, has been described as “an intimate and unflinching portrait of grit and determination”.

Thomasin McKenzie, best known for her performances in Jojo Rabbit and Leave No Trace, is going to play the role of Olympic medalist Kerri Strug in the upcoming film Perfect. Olivia Wilde is directing the biopic. Searchlight Pictures bought the global rights of the script for a whopping USD 15 million, reports Deadline.
Strug, who McKenzie will be bringing to life on screen, is a retired American gymnast. The 43-year-old former gymnast was a member of the Magnificent Seven that represented the US in the Summer Olympics 1996. Despite being injured, Strug had delivered a winning performance in the Olympics, giving America its first-ever gold medal in team gymnastics.
McKenzie is going to play the lead role in this movie which has been described as “an intimate and unflinching portrait of grit and determination”.
Perfect is scheduled to start filming in early 2022. The film will be produced by Riverstone Pictures and Pulse Films. Producers of the upcoming biopic include Nik Bower, Thomas Benski, Jeremy Baxter, and Moss Barclay. The script has been penned by Ronnie Sandahl who is also the executive producer along with the director Wilde, Deepak Nayar, and Marisa Clifford, reports Variety.
McKenzie will be seen in the M Night Shyamalan’s next titled Old. She will also be starring in Last Night in Soho, which is directed by Edgar Wright.
Reportedly, the 20-year-old actor is currently shooting for Life After Life, an adaptation of Kate Atkinson’s novel by BBC.
