Cricket bookie, two businessmen accuse Param Bir Singh of extortion; file complaints

Mumbai: Three men, including a cricket bookie, accused former Mumbai Police commissioner Param Bir Singh of extortion and have filed separate complaints against him with the Maharashtra Director General of Police (DGP).
The bookie named Sonu Jalan, along with businessmen Ketan Tanna and Noor Ahmed Pathan, submitted their complaints to the office of DGP Sanjay Pandey in April, an official said.
Not just that, but they have also forwarded copies of the complaints to Maharashtra Chief MinisterUddhav Thackeray and Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil.
In his complaint, Jalan stated that in 2018, when Singh headed the Thane Police, he had invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against him in a case and extorted money from him.
Jalan also named former encounter specialist Pradeep Sharma and two other officers, all of whom were posted with the Thane Police's Anti-Extortion Cell at that time, in his complaint.

"We have submitted three different complaints with the DGP office and other departments and want that FIRs be registered against these officers. We are ready to face investigation and record statements," Jalan said.
Singh has not issued a statement on the incident yet.
A few days ago, a police inspector had accused Singh of corruption, post which an FIR was filed against him.
Singh, who is currently the Director-General (DG) of the Maharashtra Home Guard, was transferred from his post ofMumbai Police chief in March over his alleged "mishandling" of the Ambani bomb scare and Sachin Vaze case.
