The Ntungamo Resistant District Commissioner (RDC) district George Bakunda has warned to arrest school heads and close their schools for conducting lessons for lower classes.

Bakunda while holding a special meeting with directors and head teachers of both government and private schools in Ntungamo Municipality on Monday, noted that they received intelligence information about schools teaching learners in lower classes (P1, P2 and P3) yet they are supposed to start on 7th June, 2021.

He added that some schools have even gone ahead to teach kids in nursery section which is against the Ministry of Education guidelines as far as Covid-19 control is concerned.

He directed all schools that conduct lower classes of kindergarten, P1, P2 and P3 to send them back home starting Tuesday before the security operatives swing into action to arrest them.
Bakunda vowed to continue with the operation to crack down schools that are flouting the guidelines.

In February, the Cabinet approved the reopening of schools in a “staggered manner” that will ensure compliance with Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs).

The principal education officer Ntungamo Municipality Nabaasa Gordon noted that the first phase of re-opening under this arrangement only targeted semi candidates (P.6, S3, and S.5) and the second targeted P.4, P.5 and S.1.

Nabaasa said that pupils for P.1, P.2 and P.3 will report to schools on June 7th 2021 and they should not be at schools by now.

Meanwhile the Ntungamo district internal security officer Tandeka Festo noted that the security operations will be intensified to crackdown bar owners who operate illegally and night curfew.

The directors and head teachers admitted flouting the presidential directive but accepted to send back home all illegal learners.
