KOKRAJHAR, May 3: UPPL candidate for Kokrajhar East constituency Lawrence Islary defeated sitting MLA and two time Assam cabinet minister Pramila Rani Brahma by a margin of 20,095 votes.

Islary who was a former general secretary of ABSU and one of BTR accord signatories, contested on UPPL party ticket and defeated the senior BPF leader Brahma in a tough contest that saw an interesting political fight in the assembly election.

Islary has been getting majority votes since counting started at 8 am and his winning result came by 1 pm leading with over 20 thousand votes and accordingly defeated Brahma by 20,095 margin of votes.

Islary got 83,515 votes till the completion of 21 rounds of counting while BPF candidate Pramila Rani Brahma got 63,420 votes till the final rounds of the counting.

Islary said that he won the Kokrajhar East constituency as common people wanted massive development and welfare in the society.

He has extended sincere thanks to all party leaders, supporters and workers who had dedicated themselves towards party’s integration.
