Ghaziabad: Two people were arrested on Sunday for allegedly selling oxygen in the black market in Gautam Budh Nagar. Police also recovered two cylinders and a car from them. The accused were identified as Monika Agarwal (35), and her driver Peeyush Sharma (30), residents of Gaur City in Greater Noida West. “The accused would buy the cylinders for Rs 4,000-5,000 from Delhi and sell those in Noida and Greater Noida for Rs 10,000-15,000,” police said. Rishipal Kasana, SHO of Bisrakh police station, said that based on a tip off, they set up checking points in several locations in Noida on Sunday. “On suspicion, we asked an Ertiga to stop and found 2 filled oxygen cylinders. They failed to explain why they were carrying the oxygen cylinders as they had no family members or relatives unwell,” he said, adding that interrogation revealed that they bought the cylinders from Delhi and were looking for potential customers in Noida. They were sent to judicial custody after producing in court. A case has been registered against them under Section 420 (cheating) and Section 269 (negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life) of the IPC, and under relevant Section of the Epidemic Act.
