This year’s Class X board exam was cancelled due to Covid
BHUBANESWAR: After the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) announced the process of assessing the Class X students in the event of the cancellation of the boards, all eyes are now on the Board of Secondary Education, Odisha, as the state has also cancelled the final exams.
“Both the CBSE and the ICSE have said they will calculate the marks on the basis of the internal examination scores of students. But we are not yet sure about what our state board will do. Our selection or admission in higher secondary schools and the stream we will opt for depend on the Class X marks,” Rima Dalei, a Class X student, said.
However, teachers and educationists are sceptical about BSE’s next move as the internal examination system in the state-run schools is not very robust.
“The quarterly and half-yearly examinations could not be conducted as schools were shut. The Class IX annual examination of last year was also cancelled. We don’t know how the government is planning to give marks to students,” Sushanta Das, a high schoolteacher, said. Meanwhile, the BSE has formed a committee and is in talks with experts to decide on the marking system.
“We have started consultations and have formed a panel to work on the process to calculate the marks of students. We will finalise it soon,” a senior official said
