'It's like a once-in-a-lifetime kind of thing': Marysville and Anchor Bay face off at Comerica Park

A wave of excitement spread through the Marysville baseball team as the players stepped onto the field on Saturday at Comerica Park before facing Anchor Bay.
"We're playing on Comerica," said Cole Bowman as he jumped up and down in excitement.
For players on both teams, it would most likely be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, playing on the same field the Detroit Tigers call home.
"I think it’s a dream come true for a lot of these guys," Marysville interim coach Josh Vagi said. "I think it’s a really special opportunity, to get a chance to be on the same field as the pros."
Anchor Bay coach Jared Biesbrouck agreed following the Tars' 7-1 victory over the Vikings.
"We’re just really fortunate for the opportunity," he said. "Last year everybody got their year taken away."
Marysville senior Zach Meier said it's a good experience. With travel ball he's played in most of the big fields in Michigan, but not Comerica Park.
"I think it's just the environment of the game, we're playing in a huge stadium," he said. "We're getting to play where some of our favorite players did."
Marysville senior Macio Miller has been going to Tigers games most of his life. Before the game, he said he was excited to be out on the field.
"It's like a once-in-a-lifetime kind of thing," he said. "Playing in a big-league stadium, there's nothing better."
When asked, both coaches said their only strategy was to make sure every player was able to get on the field and play.
"Today is a day where we’re going to get everybody in," Biesbrouck said. "It’s a day where everybody is going to get in and get opportunities."
On the field, Marysville took the Tigers' dugout, while Anchor Bay had access to the visiting team's. As each kid came up to bat, their name and picture were displayed on the scoreboard.
