Vijayawada, May 3 (UNI) The steep rise of fresh cases continued in Andhra Pradesh as 18,972 new cases were reported and 71 more patients died in a period of 24 hours.
According to a health bulletin here on Monday, 1,15,275 swab samples were diagnosed in a period of 24 hours of which 18,972 were tested positive for Coronavirus while 71 more patients died. The pandemic has claimed the lives of 8,207 so far in AP.
Highest number of 2,628 cases was reported in Kurnool district, 1914 in Guntur district, 1914 in EG district, 1960 in Visakhapatnam, 1732 in Srikakulam district and 1714 in Chittoor district. At present there are 1,51,852 active cases in the state.
The total number of positive cases has gone up to 11,63,994 of which 10,03,935 have been discharged from various hospitals as they recovered. So far 1,67,18,148 swab samples have been diagnosed in AP.
Significantly, the AP government has decided to impose lockdown from May 5 in the state in a bid to contain the rapid spread of pandemic. The lockdown would be relaxed from 6 am to 12 noon every day to enable people to buy essentials.
Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy reviewd the Covid situation with officials today and announced the imposing of lockdown. The officials informed the Chief Minister that Oxygen facilities are available in 146 hospitals across the state and there are 26,446 beds with an oxygen pipeline in those hospitals. They said 420 - 500 metric tons of oxygen is being used on average daily and it is estimated that the usage may increase by the end of the second week of May.
