Currently teaching myself Spanish via Duolingo. I'm at a 90+ day streak now. I've added reading children's books for more language gains.
According to an online test I took a couple weeks back I'm ALMOST A1 level, which is not much, but not bad for about 30 mins of work per day.

Learning Japanese, I grew up learning English and Spanish. If you know Spanish then you can often read basic Latin, Italian, French, and Portuguese. They are all really similar.
I decided to try learning Japanese as a personal challenge and some family history with the country. Chit seemed really difficult at first, but the main hurdle is learning the alphabets.Beans, cleans, gasoline

Keep up the languagemaxxing boyos.
Nothing better than travelling and practicing the languages you learned. The locals appreciate it and it's a great way to get "in" with them.
Even better when they want to learn or practice their English with you and a great friendship starts to form.*Contrast Showers Crew*

No kidding. The US State Department has a ranking of language difficulty. Spanish is supposed to take about 600 hours and is in the easiest category. Japanese is in the hardest category but is even harder than the other languages in that category. It's supposed to take 2200 hours.

I found a way to learn the basic alphabets, katakana and hiragana, really quickly with mnemonics. The third alphabet is kanji which is Chinese characters. The truth is that people in Japan don't learn all the kanji and it's really rare even for native speakers to pass the highest level comprehension tests. Maybe like 2,000 people in the whole country can pass the test.
People will spend weeks or months learning all the basic phonetic characters, like the letters of our alphabet, but someone came up with a way to memorize the characters using shapes and imagery. This has enabled people to learn the whole alphabet in days and it's working really well so far. Chit is made a lot easier this way.
Knowing enough to read a newspaper or have a conversation is not super difficult. My goal is to learn enough to read books in the language, and even then I don't have to pass the super difficult tests. If you are reading Spanish books I would recommend Don Quixote which is one of the greatest books ever written dead srs.Beans, cleans, gasoline
