Lucknow, May 3(UNI) As counting of panchayat polls continued even after 24 hours after it begun on Sunday, the political parties, the ruling BJP and principal opposition Samajwadi Party has claimed good achievement in the rural polls.
UP BJP vice-president and in charge of Panchayat polls Vijay Bahadur Pathak here on Monday claimed that party supported candidates have won in 60+ seats in the state and it will further increase when all the results were declared this afternoon.
"The party's official candidates have performed as per the expectation and even some rebel too have won. We are assessing the situation and a detailed report would be issued soon," Mr Pathak said.
Though the politicial parties have fielded their candidates in the panchayat polls but symbols of the parties were not used.
SP spokesperson Rajendra Chowdhury has claimed that the party candidates have performed well in the panchayat polls.
"Our candidates have swept the polls in Etawah, Mainpuri, Azamgarh, Prayagraj and several other districts," he said.
Meanwhile, in Mainpuri, BJP had to suffer in the DDC elections when niece of Mulayam Singh Yadav, the official candidate of the BJP lost to SP candidate.
Ms Sandhya Yadav, BJP candidate and sister of former SP MP Dharmendra Yadav, was defeated by SP candidate Pramod Kumar by a margin of 1907 votes.
While Sandhya got 5,998 votes, Pramod received 7905 votes.
In the 30 DDC seats of Mainpuri, SP has won 5 and was leading in 11 seats while BJP has won 2 and leading in four others.
Senior BJP leader and state cabinet minister Ramapati Shastri's nephew lost the pradhan elections in Mankapur area of Gonda district while BJP's Harriya MLA in Basti district, Ajay Singh's sister-in-law lost the elections in BDC polls.
Dispute arose in Unnao during counting of votes on Monday morning when less ballot papers were found in the box.
Similar incident happened when the ballot box of Banthar village in Sikendrapur was opened.
In Chitrakoot, son of a dacoit Aridaman Singh was elected pradhan of Shitalpur Tauraha village.
Aridaman's father dacoit Radhe alias Subedar Singh was the right hand man of dreaded dacoit Dadua and is presently in jail.
Elections were held for 58,194 gram Pradhan, 7,31,813 gram panchayat members, 75,808 BDC members and 3050 DDC members.
Till Sunday late night, 112358 posts of Gram panchayat members, 16510 gram pradhans and 35812 BDC members results were declared.
Officials said that all results would be declared by Monday afternoon.
There were mismanagement and crowd at every counting centers on Sunday morning when the counting started even after strict warning by the Supreme Court .
People thronged the counting centres violating Covid norms.
There are a total of 829 counting centres which will decide the fate of 12,89,830 candidates.
Polling for 58,189 village panchayats of Uttar Pradesh took place in four phases, between April 15 and 29, with polling percentage ranging between 72 to 75 per cent .
Termed as a semifinal before the 2022 assembly polls on the state, panchayat elections have engaged all the political parties in the state for the first time.
