HYDERABAD: The Congress on Monday urged Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) to appoint a highly qualified doctor or an experienced public health policy expert as the health minister to lead the fight against the second wave of Covid-19.
In a letter to CM KCR on Monday, All India Congress Committee (AICC) spokesperson Dasoju Sravan demanded that health emergency should be declared in the state and the government should set up 24x7 Covid war room at state and districts level, constitute a task force with health experts and set up thousands of vaccine centres as the next 90 days are crucial.
He said Covid-19 treatment should be incorporated under Arogyasri scheme for the benefit of the poor and adequate funds should be allotted to all government hospitals.
Stating that people are unable to get Remdesivir injections unless the write to KTR on the twitter, he suggested to the state government to buy the life-saving drugs by investing Rs 100 crore and distribute it through Army canteens to avoid black marketing.
Despite being a global pharma hub and the home to indigenous Covid-19 vaccine Covaxin, people of Hyderabad and Telangana do not have access to vaccines and life-saving drugs in adequate quantities reflecting the poor governance in Telangana, he alleged.
Sravan demanded to convert the under construction new secretariat site into the state-of-the-art super specialty hospital to treat Covid-19 patients.
He urged the CM to allocate adequate funds to all government hospitals in Telangana including TIMS, Osmania Hospital, Gandhi Hospital, Fever Hospital, Chest Hospital, Niloufer Hospital and other district level hospitals while making public details of CM Care Funds.
