ECI defers Pipili Assembly by election in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, May 3 (UNI) Election Commission of India today postponed the by election to the Pipili Assembly seat scheduled to be held on May 16 next in view of the surge in Covid pandemic situation.

Sources here said the by-election to Pipili Assembly was postponed on the basis of the reports of the state Chief Electoral officer.

A fresh date for the by-election would be announced after assessing the Covid Pandemic situation.

This was for the third time the by election to the Pipili assembly seat was deferred.

The by election to Pipili scheduled to be held on April 17 last was adjourned and fixed for May 13 following the demise of Congress Candidate on April 14 just three days before the election.

The date for the by-election was again shifted to May 16 after some people appealed to the ECI to change the date stating that it would be incontinent on their part to participate in the election as Idul Fitri falls on May 13

Now the By election was postponed again due to the second phase covid situation in the state.
