Ashwin had taken a break to support the family after at least 10 members tested positive for COVID-19. He did not travel to Ahmedabad for the second leg of IPL 2021 after completing 1st round of matches in Chennai.
“I would be taking a break from this year’s IPL from tomorrow. My family and extended family are putting up a fight against #COVID19 and I want to support them during these tough times,” Ashwin had said on April 25.
In his absence, DC used Lalit Yadav who has faired well in his few outings.

As the situation has improved, Ashwin is likely to rejoin the runners-up. For this, Ashwin needs to serve a mandatory 7-day quarantine period and return a couple of negative Covid-19 tests before rejoining them in the bio-secure bubble.
Delhi Capitals will move to Kolkata for the final/ last leg of their league phase that will commence on May 11.
Ashwin went on to play 5 matches for DC in IPL 2021. He bowled tight overs for his franchise during the slog overs. The off-spinner is an experienced player so he can assist Rishabh Pant in making key decisions during crunch situation.

Meanwhile, Ashwin’s wife Prithi Narayan recently shared the ordeal that her family and extended family went through after testing Covid-19 positive.
It is notable that DC players were asked to isolate on a precautionary basis after numerous players, staffs tested positive for the coronavirus. KKR’s Sandeep Warrier and Varun Chakaravarthy, CSK’s bowling coach have tested positive for COVID-19.
As a result, the match between RCB and KKR on Monday got postponed. It is still uncertain whether the upcoming fixture on Tuesday SRH vs MI will take place or not.
