France: Maire Tecnimont Wins Contract for Biopolymer Plant

April 28, 2021 – Maire Tecnimont has announced that its subsidiary Nextchem has been recently awarded a contract by Total Corbion PLA, a 50/50 joint venture between Total and Corbion, to carry out a Front-End Engineering Design for their 100,000 tons per annum Poly Lactic Acid (PLA) plant in Grandpuits, France. The plant, due to be operational in 2024, will be the first of its kind in Europe. Read more.

Spain: Siemens Energy, Messer Group to Jointly Develop Green Hydrogen Projects

April 28, 2021 – Siemens Energy and Messer Group have entered into a cooperation agreement with the goal to work on green hydrogen projects in the 5 – 50 MW range for industrial and mobility applications. Within the framework of this agreement, Messer Ibérica has already submitted three clean hydrogen projects in the chemical complex of Tarragona to the Spanish Government. These projects will have a total electrolyzer capacity of 70 MW. Read more.

Spain: Repsol, Enerkem, Agbar to Build a Waste to Chemicals Plant in Tarragona

April 29, 2021 – Repsol will join the Ecoplanta project, together with Enerkem and Agbar, to build a waste to chemicals plant in Tarragona, Spain. Under the joint venture Ecoplanta Molecular Recycling Solutions, the plant will process around 400,000 tons of non-recyclable municipal solid waste from its surrounding regions and produce 220,000 tons of methanol. This methanol will be used as raw material to produce circular materials or advanced biofuels, contributing to avoid 200,000 tons of CO2 and reducing the waste that ends up in the landfill. The plant, the first of its kind in the Iberian Peninsula, will be co-managed by Repsol and Agbar, whilst Enerkem will be the key technological partner. The plant is projected to be in operation in 2025 after taking the project’s final investment decision by the first quarter of 2022. Read more.

USA: 6K to Invest 25 Million Dollars for Sustainable Battery Materials

April 30, 2021 – 6K announced the creation of a Center of Excellence for its 6K Energy division focused on the development of sustainable battery materials for electric vehicles (EVs), grid storage and consumer goods. The company will invest 25 million dollars over the next two years to triple the size of its facility in North Andover, MA, USA with as many as ten Unimelt systems dedicated to the full-scale development and pilot production of battery materials. 6K Energy will expand the size of its product development team, enhance world-class material testing capabilities and help the US to lower supply chain risks with clean energy production of critical battery materials. Russia: Acron, Haldor Topsoe Complete Revamp of Ammonia Unit

April 30, 2021 – Acron and Haldor Topsoe have completed the ammonia unit revamp project and successfully passed guarantee test runs to confirm the capacity of 2500 MTPD of ammonia. The Ammonia-4 plant operated by the Acron company is one of the largest ammonia units in Europe. It’s a major investment project at Acron’s site in Novgorod city, Russia and it was the first ammonia plant built by Russian specialists without support from foreign workforce. The plant was commissioned in 2016, total investment reached 500 million dollars. Read more.
