Ambajogai, May 3 (UNI) BJP state spokesperson Ram Kulkarni on Monday demanded that the Maharashtra government should give help to journalists, who are performing their duty even in the midst of Covid-19 pandemic at the risk of their own lives, on the lines of other states like Bihar and Madhya Pradesh.
In a press statement, Mr Kulkarni accused the Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi government of deliberately ignoring the question of journalists in the state and asked is the ruling party allergic to journalists?
To justify his point, he quoted senior journalist S M Deshmukh who recently accused the government of being allergic to journalists even though the Chief Minister himself remained the editor of a daily.
He said since the outbreak of the corona crisis in the country, journalists in the state have been working on the streets day and night, risking their lives to create awareness about the pandemic while maintaining coordination between the administration, the people and the government.
More than a hundred journalists have been killed in the state while working in this fight and the lives of some have been exposed, the BJP leader stated.
Even as the Journalists' Union in the state has demanded help for these frontline corona warriors, the government has not provided any assistance to them so far, he noted.
In fact, in the wake of the crisis, the Bihar and Madhya Pradesh governments have started providing financial assistance to the kins of journalists who died while performing their duty as well taking care of journalists, Mr Kulkarni added.
It may be noted that the Marathi Press Council has staged several agitations for this demand in the state.
