COPPK appeals to refrain from trekking Mt Koubru during COVID-19 pandemic

Kangpokpi, May 02 2021: Considering the alarming state of affairs owing to the dreaded COVID-19 second wave and sudden surge of its infection and fatalities, the Committee on Protection and Preservation of Mt Koubru (COPPK) appealed to the people of the State both from the valley and hills to desist from trekking Mt Koubru during the pandemic.

During a press conference at KSO Administrative office in Kangpokpi DHQs, COPPK secretary, Dr Lamtinthang Haokip said that the second wave of COVID-19 has hit the Nation hard and it has become colossally dangerous for everyone.

However, despite the advocacy of Covid appropriate behaviours by the State Government and a number of civil society organizations, most people are still seen in a state of quietude over the dreaded second wave of COVID-19, he added.

Dr Lamtinthang Haokip appealed to the people of Manipur both from the valley and the hills to refrain from trekking Mt Koubru at this alarming situation.

He said, "When the dreaded pandemic is over or contained let us all climb together to worship or embark on various activities to bring back the past glory, its originality and essence of our beautiful and pride of the state, the Mt Koubru" .

He also asserted that refraining from trekking Mt Koubru at this juncture would be considered one of the highest signs of humanity during the pandemic.

Dr Lamtinthang Haokip mentioned that as agreed in principle on April 20, COPPK in consultation with the concerned department and the area chiefs would embark on a massive tree plantation at Mt Koubru range after the pandemic is over or controlled.

In connection with the Mt Koubru impasse, Dr Lamtinthang Haokip maintained that unless the matter is amicably resolved by the Chief Minister, COPPK would stand and uphold the agreement signed on April 20 with the Government representatives.

He continued that upon the request of Saitu AC MLA, Ngamthang Haokip, who is also the advisor to CM, the Committee on Protection and Preservation of Mt Koubru also made a sincere appealed to all the people of Manipur from the valley and hills as well as from any corners of the country and abroad to avoid vested press release or sharing opinions or views on Mt Koubru impasse, which is yet to be resolved, in any form of communication be it newspapers, television or social networking site which could ignite communal disharmony.

Dr Lamtinthang Haokip further stated that any individual or groups indulging in vested press release, sharing opinions or views would be held responsible for any inconvenience or untoward incidents as such opinions or views is not the opinions, ideas and views of the committee.
