Gaurav was driving the car and they were headed towards Sector 15
Gurgaon: Gaurav Jindal — the son of Haryana RSS chief Pawan Jindal — and one of his friends died in an accident at Sikanderpur underpass on Golf Course Road on Sunday morning. Police said the accident happened around 12.30am when the youths, both in their thirties, were headed towards Sector 15 from DLF Phase-1 after meeting their friend. They were in a BMW car and Gaurav was behind the wheel. “The car, which was moving at a high speed, hit the divider,” said Vinod Kumar, SHO, DLF Phase-2 police station. The impact of the collision was such that it landed on the other side of the road, he added. A security guard, who was at the spot, informed the police and soon, a team reached the spot. Gaurav and his friend, Sawan Khanna, were rushed to Medanta, but both of them were declared dead at the hospital. The bodies were sent for autopsy and handed over to the families later in the day. Many BJP leaders, including Om Prakash Dhankar and Karnal MP Sanjay Bhatia, reached Jindal’s house to offer their condolences. State home minister Anil Vij took to Twitter to express his grief. “The death of Pawan Jindal’s son Gaurav Jindal is a grave injury to the entire Sangh family...,” he tweeted. Gaurav’s brother Saurav Jindal said he got the information from the police that his brother had met with an accident near Phase 2 metro station. He has said in a police statement that the accident happened “due to no fault of anyone”. Last year, in an accident near the same spot, a youth named Alok Gupta had died after he was hit by a car driven by a minor. According to a mobility report published by the Gurgaon Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) last year, Golf Course Road is one of the black spots in the city and it witnessed the fifth highest number of accidents.“The main reasons are speeding and careless driving. Around 43.5% of the total number of accidents are caused because of speeding and nearly 39.8% of accidents are caused due to careless driving,” the report says.
