A massive fire at a chemical warehouse sending a huge plume of smoke over east Houston had no impact on vessel traffic along the Houston Ship Channel, said the Houston ship pilots association on Wednesday.
The fire is north of the waterway through which crude oil, motor fuels and petrochemicals move in and out of the nation’s busiest energy port, said J.J. Plunkett, port agent for the Houston Pilots.
The fire broke out at a storage facility operated by K-Solv in the Houston suburb of Channelview, Texas, at about 4 p.m. CDT (2100 GMT), according to KTRK-TV.
A K-Solv spokeswoman did not reply to a request for comment.
The fire was also located north of the chain of refineries and petrochemical plants located along the Ship Channel.
