LDF continues dominance in strong hold Kannur district

Kannur, May 2 (UNI) The ruling CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) continued their dominance in this 'red bastion' district by increasing the number of seats and margin of votes secured than in the previous assembly election held in 2016.
LDF, which contested the election under the leadership of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, won 9 seats out of the total 11 seats in this district and increased the victory margin to 60,000 odd votes.
Both Mr Vijayan, who contested from Dharmadam constituency in Kannur district, and his son-in-law P M Muhammed Riyas, the DYFI national president, who contested from Beypore constituency in Kozhikode district, won the election.
Mr Vijayan increased his victory margin from 36905 vores in the 2016 election to 48051 votes in this election from the same constituency.
Health Minister K K Shailaja increased the LDF victory margin to 60963 votes than the previous election (43381 votes) which was secured by E P Jayarajan from Mattannur constituency.
Port and Museum minister and Kerala Congress(S) State president Ramachandran Kadanapally retained the Kannur constituency by increasing the margin to 1660 from 1196 votes he got in the 2016 election.
LDF candidate T I Madhusoodhanan also increased the margin of LDF votes to 49342 votes by defeating M Pradeep Kumar of UDF. In the 2016 election, LDF candidate C Krishnan's margin was 40263 votes.
Former SFI State president M Vijin got a victory margin of 44393 votes from Kalliasseri constituency.
LDF retains the Payyanur, Kallyassery, Taliparamba, Kannur, Mattanur, Thalassery, Koothuparamba and Dharmadam seats and wrests the Azhikode seat through K V Sumesh by defeating K M Shaji of IUML by a margin of 5405 votes.
UDF retains the Irrikur and Peravoor constituencies.
