CHENNAI: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Sunday placed Teynampet police inspector Murali under suspension for failing to control the crowd at the DMK headquarters celebrating the party’s performance in the Tamil Nadu assembly election. DMK cadre began to assemble at the headquarters as the party began to lead in many constituencies across the state. The crowd, throwing caution to the wind, began to burst crackers and danced. Most of them did not wear masks and follow social distancing. The ECI had banned all election victory processions in view of Covid-19. The ECI had directed chief secretaries of all five states to file FIR in each such cases, suspend the SHO of the concerned police station and file action taken report immediately.
