Chandigarh, May 2 (UNI) To ensure proactive help to people in combating severe COVID wave, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee chief Sunil Jakhar has constituted a committee under which party leaders and workers have been mandated to reach out to those in need and facilitate quick assistance.
A dedicated control room would also be launched at party office here on Monday by the state president and health minister Balbir Singh Sidhu.
This was disclosed by the state president during a virtual meeting with leaders from across the state.
''We are passing through a crisis and need to help each other,'' Jakhar said.
The state government is doing commendable task to ensure the best of medical help to the patients and it has also provided ration kits to the needy, he said, adding that the party cadres have also been doing everything to complement state efforts to curb the virus spread.
''Our cadres have been directed to ensure all possible help to the needy in this hour of distress in every possible manner. Some families whose all members are infected with the virus need food, some need medicine or urgent medical help which our partymen have been directed to ensure immediately,'' he assured.
Mr Jakhar said that General Secretary of All India Youth Congress Amarpreet Singh Lalli has been appointed state coordinator, and General Secretary Punjab Youth Congress Karambir Singh Bittu has been appointed state co-coordinator who will manage the helpline task from state office here. The control room will be operstionalised from Monday.
''Had the Centre acted on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's advice, the situation would not have deteriorated like this,'' Jakhar claimed.
Speaking on the occasion, Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu said that urgent need of the hour is to help the needy. There is a need to continuously spread awareness about vaccinations to ensure maximum coverage. He assured that state government is standing with its citizens in this critical hour.
