Thanks to the people of Kerala for trusting in the government of LDF: Sitaram Yechury

New Delhi: With the CPI (M) -leading LDF to return to power in Kerala, the party’s general secretary, Sitaram Yechury, thanked voters in a video message on Sunday for showing confidence in the party and promising that the Left Party will continue to address the challenges people face.

With the initial trends of the state showing that the ruling LDF maintains its lead in 88 of the 140 rallies in Kerala, while the opposition UDF leads in 50 segments, according to trends available until 10.30am, Yechury seemed confident that his party will emerge triumphant.

“I thank the people of Kerala for basing their faith in an unprecedented way on the way the previous LDF government tackled all the challenges that the people faced and also the pandemic plague. “The government has given the world a Kerala model on how to deal with the pandemic,” he said.

He said the country as well as the state are currently facing twin dangers – livelihoods arising from the pandemic and the defense and protection of India’s constitutional, secular republic.

“The CPF (M) -directed LDF will play its rightful role in this and we expect the people of Kerala who have always stood up as one to continue in a stronger way,” he said.

Yechury also paid tribute to those who lost their lives in a completely “preventable” plague of the coronavirus pandemic and said that the people in this country should come together to fight the disease.

“We must make sure that we come together to defeat this disease and create a better India and a better Kerala for all of us,” he said.

If the government led by Pinarayi Vijayan comes to power again in Kerala, it will set a precedent – after the 1970s, the people of Kerala did not re-elect a prime minister or party.
