Thane, May 1 (UNI) State and District Guardian Minister Eknath Shinde on Saturday launched an oxygen bank for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
Speaking on the occasion, he said that due to acute shortage of oxygen for the Covid patients in the region, it was decided to install the bank.
Though the idea to set up the Oxygen Bank was of the Minister, it is launched through the Dr Srikant Shinde Foundation and the Shiv Sena Medical Cell.
He said that initially the bank will have 120 oxygen concentrators of 5 litre capacity, which will subsequently be augmented to 10 litres.
With this, the patients can avail the facility at their residence if they do not get oxygen beds immediately, he pointed.
Initially this service will be available for patients from Thane, Kalyan, Dombivli, Ambernath and Badlapur towns in the district, Mr Shinde said.
The Minister also inaugurated two oxygen generation plants here at the Parking Plaza Covid Care Centre.
This is the first plant in the MMR region having such a large capacity set up by the Thane Municipal Corporation, it was stated.
The plant will supply oxygen to the hospital having 300 beds.
These two plants will generate 350 cylinders of oxygen, which is equivalent to 3.2 tonnes of oxygen.
