Hyderabad: Breeding Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has met its position in the Nagarjuna Sagar constituency, the counting trend showed on Sunday.
After 11 counting rounds, Nomula Bhagat of the TRS led by 9,034 votes over his closest rival K. Jana Reddy of the Congress Party.
The TRS candidate cast 38,924 votes while Jana Reddy received 29,890 votes.
The counting of votes polled in the April 17 by-poll began Sunday morning. The count was in two large halls, each with seven tables. About 400 officials were involved in the counting and related activities.
Officials expect the count to be completed in 25 rounds.
The constituency saw 86.18 percent of the vote on April 17, despite the Covid-19 boom. Of the 2.20 lakh voters, 1.89 lakh cast their votes.
About 41 candidates, including three women, are contesting the by-pole, which was necessary due to the death of the sitting legislature Nomula Narasimhaiah of the TRS.
The ruling party introduces Narasimhaiah’s son Nomula Bhagat, a debutant who took on veteran Congress leader and seven-time MLA Jana Reddy.
In 2018, Nomula Narasimhaiah won the seat by defeating Jana Reddy of Congress by about 8,000 votes. Nomula received 83,655 votes while Jana Reddy received 75,884 votes.
BJP’s K. Niveditha Reddy cast only 2,675 votes.
The TRS polled 46.34 percent of the vote, while Congress received 42.04 percent of the vote and the BJP received only 1.48 percent of the vote.
