Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan is contesting from Coimbatore (South) under Coimbatore district in Tamil Nadu. The Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) chief is pitched against Mayura S Jayakumar (Congress), Vanathi Srinivasan (BJP), Abdul Wahab (NTK) and R Duraisamy (AMMK), along with many other independent candidates.
The Coimbatore South seat is showing flip-flops every now and then. Early trends showed Kamal Haasan leading. However, after the second round of counting, MNM chief Kamal Hassan was trailing while Congress' Mayur Jayakumar was leading.
But, the tables have turned again and Kamal Haasan is now leading again by 500 odd votes. Congress' Mayura Jayakumar is trailing second, and BJP's Vanathi Srinivasan pushed to third.
Early trends show it is an advantage for the DMK in the state as Udhayanidhi Stalin is leading against PMK's AVA Kassali in Chepauk and his father MK Stalin in Kolathur.
The counting for Tamil Nadu Assembly Election 2021 started at 8 AM on Sunday (May 2). The election is set to witness a tight contest between the ruling AIADMK which is in alliance with BJP and MK Stalin-led DMK which fought the election in alliance with Congress.
The initial trends are showing that DMK is heading towards a victory but the trends are only for postal ballots and they can always. The 234-member Tamil Nadu assembly needs a party to have a majority mark of 118 to emerge a winner. On the other hand, the counting for bye-election to the Kanyakumari Lok Sabha seat held on April 6 is also being done today.
Several exit polls have predicted a comfortable victory for DMK which is looking to return to power after a decade and dethrone the ruling AIADMK. Earlier, it was announced by the Tamil Nadu government that a complete lockdown will be there on counting day but movement/transport of officials, political party functionaries, counting agents, and others will be allowed.
