IPL 2021: KL Rahul diagnosed with appendicitis, Punjab Kings captain to undergo surgery in Ahmedabad
In match 29 of the ongoing IPL season, the Capitals ticked all the boxes as they once again proved that they are the team to watch out for. After opting to bowl first, the Capitals bowler’s kept Punjab in check.
Despite fall of wickets in the other end, stand-in skipper Mayank Agarwal played a captain’s knock as he scored a solid 99 off 58. Agarwal needed a six off the final ball to reach his 100. But a four of the final delivery saw the opener remain unbeaten on 99. But the skipper’s knock gave the bowler’s a fighting chance.
Rabada led the bowling attack with three wickets, but towards the death overs Delhi conceded runs and that is something the team has to ponder on.
In reply, the Punjab bowlers put up a listless show, as Delhi chased down the total with 14 balls to spare. The young Prithvi Shaw once again handed the Capitals a flying start before Harpreet Brar removed him for 39 off 22. But Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan’s opening stand of 63 off 38 had put Delhi in a comfortable position in the chase.
Smith (24 off 22) and Dhawan kept Delhi on course with a 41-ball 48 partnership.
The Capitals did not look troubled throughout the chase. But Shimron Hetmyer once again played the finisher’s knock as scored 16 off just 4 to chase down the total with fourteen balls to spare.
With tonight’s win, Delhi climb to the top of the table with 12 points from eight matches. Meanwhile, Punjab continue to languish at the sixth place with six points from eight games.
