The counting of votes for UP panchayat polls is underway. As per updates, the counting of votes has begun at 8 AM and the initial electoral trends are likely to emerge between 10 AM and 11 AM.
After Supreme Court's approval, the counting of votes for Uttar Pradesh Gram Panchayat Election 2021 is being held on Sunday. The Supreme Court directed that there will be a strict curfew in the entire state till Tuesday morning and no victory rallies will be permitted.
Lakhs of candidates were in the fray for over 7.32 lakh seats in the gram panchayat wards, 58,176 in the gram panchayats, 75,852 in the kshetra panchayats, and 3,050 in the Zila panchayats in the statewide elections held over four phases.
Polling was held on April 15 in the first phase, on April 19 in the second, on April 26 in the third, and on April 29 in the fourth phase.
Medical health desks have been opened at all counting centres where a doctor will be present with medicines. Those showing symptoms of COVID-19 such as fever, cold, and cough will not be allowed at the counting centres.
Everyone entering the counting centre has to undergo thermal scanning. Directions have been issued to make arrangements for sanitiser, soap, and water at the counting centres.
A total of 3.19 lakh candidates were elected unopposed, the state election commission informed.
