Rajasthan: Congress, BJP manage to retain assembly constituencies in bypolls to three seats

The Congress and the BJP in Rajasthan managed to retain the Assembly constituencies in the bypolls to three seats.

The Congress in Rajasthan has managed to retain the seats of Sahara and Sujangarh in the assembly bypoll, the result of which were declared on Sunday. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) managed to keep the Rajsamand seat.

In October last year, Congress MLA Kailash Chandra Trivedi from Sahara in Bhilwara district of Rajasthan had died due to Covid-19. The Congress gave the ticket to his wife Gayatri Devi who managed to win by more than 30,000 votes in Sahara Assembly Constituency.

Bhanwarlal Meghwal, who was the sitting member of legislative assembly from Sujangarh, passed away last year while undergoing treatment following a paralytic stroke. His son, Manoj Meghwal, was fielded by the Congres for the bypoll.

BJP MLA Kiran Maheshwari from Rajsamand also passed away due to Covid-19. The party gave the ticket to her daughter, Deepti Kiran Maheshwari, who managed to defeat the Congress candidate by more than 5000 votes.

Each of the sitting candidates' kins managed to win by getting sympathy votes.
