Tamil Nadu Election Results 2021 Live Updates: The counting of 234-member Legislative Assembly in Tamil Nadu began at 8 am on Sunday with strict Covid protocol. While both the Dravidian parties — DMK and AIADMK — fought the elections following a bitter poll campaign, exit polls gave the DMK and its chief MK Stalin an edge. This means the DMK could return to power after a decade. While the AIADMK is in alliance with the BJP, the DMK has formed an alliance with Congress. While these two alliances are the top contenders, added to the mix was Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam. Like in West Bengal, the BJP has also looked to make inroads in Tamil Nadu.
These were also the first elections fought in years without the two party stalwarts and arch-rivals J Jayalalithaa and M Karunanidhi. Polling for the state was held on April 6. In 2016, the AIADMK won 136 seats and the DMK won 89 of the 178 constituencies it contested. DMK ally, the Congress, won eight seats, while the Indian Union Muslim League (another partner in the DMK’s coalition) won one seat. While till 2016, Tamil Nadu has always voted for a change in government, in 2016 Jayalalithaa managed to stay in power for a second term.
The absence of Jayalalithaa and Karunanidhi is significant in these elections. Political analyst N Sathiya Moorthy had told News18, “Independent of the results, this election is expected to consolidate the post-Jaya, post-Karunanidhi Dravidian political hold over the state. Critics cannot anymore attribute the Dravidian success story to filmi charisma, though the freebies charge can become shriller.”

As per the latest ECI trends, AIADMK is leading in 52 seats while DMK leads on 49.
As the second round of counting votes comes to an end, MNM chief Kamal Hassan trails at Coimbatore South constituency while Congress' Mayur Jayakumar leads.
After the first round of counting at Aravakurichi constituency, DMK is leading by 200 votes. State BJP vice president and former IPS officer Annamalai is trailing. The DMK has garnered 2,717 votes while BJP has got 2,517 votes.
As per the latest ECI trends, DMK is leading in 24 seats while AIADMK is leading in 23 seats. BJP, VCK and DMK allies CPI and CPIM are leading in one seat each while NDA ally PMK is leading in three seats.

Dy CM Leads in Bodinayakannur | Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam is leading by 233 votes in Bodinayakannur constituency at the end of first round of counting.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Khushboo Sundar is trailing in Thousand Lights constituency at end of postal ballot counting. DMK takes lead.
Stalin Leads at His Constituency | MK Stalin leads by 1,754 votes in his Kolathur constituency after first round of counting. DMK garnered 3,199 votes while AIADMK has got 1,445 votes.
Kanyakumari Parliamentary By-election | Congress candidate Vijay Kumar alias Vijay Vasant leads with 3,654 votes while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has garnered 1,770 so far.
As per the Election Commission's official data, DMK and AIADMK are leading in one seat each as counting of votes is underway.

Kamal Haasan Leads in Coimbatore South | Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) chief Kamal Haasan leads in Coimbatore South Assembly seat. The MNM has garnered 1,391 votes while the Congress party has got 1,345 votes.
DMK continues to lead with 68 seats while AIADMK is leading in 42 seats. Kamal Hassan's Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) is leading in one seat.

DMK leader Karthikeyan leads at Vellore Assembly constituency after first round of counting.
Palaniswami Leads at Native Edappadi Constituency | Chief Minister EK Palaniswami posts a decisive lead at his native Edappadi Assembly constituency where the AIADMK has garnered 5,484 votes while the DMK has got 2,159 votes after first round of counting.
At Anna Nagar, the DMK leads wity 1,029 votes after first round of counting. The DMK garnered 2,509 votes while ADMK stands with 1,380 votes.

The AMMK and AIADMK cadres engaged in a tiff at the counting centre in Sattur.

At Kumbakonam Assembly seat, the DMK is leading after the first round of counting.
DMK is leading at 30 seats while the incumbent AIADMK is leading in 16 seats currently, as per initial trends. The Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) is currently leading in 1 seat only.
