Kabul: A fire broke out late Saturday through several fuel carts on the northern edge of the Afghan capital, injuring at least ten people.
It was not immediately known whether the fire would occur accidentally or intentionally during the official start of the final withdrawal of US and NATO troops, ending the longest war in America.
All 2,500-3,500 U.S. troops and about 7,000 NATO allied forces will be out of Afghanistan by September 11, the twentieth anniversary of the first-ever terrorist attacks in the United States.
Interior Ministry spokesman Tariq Arian said the fire started when a spark ignited one fuel tank. Several tankers in the area were quickly engulfed and sent huge flames and plumes of smoke into the night sky.
Dozens of tankers slowly moved into the capital at the time of the fire. They waited until after 9pm when fuel trucks and other large trucks were allowed into the city.
The fire was brought under control. There was no immediate evidence of sabotage, but Awan said an investigation is underway.
