Gavin Hunt was left ruining two dropped points as Kaizer Chiefs drew 2-2 with Bloemfontein Celtic on Saturday at the Dr Rantlai Petrus Stadium.
Happy Mashiane opened the scoring at the Seisa Ramabodu Stadium after just three minutes before Eric Motoho added a second 10 minutes later.
Celtic, though, were back in the tie when Neo Maema netted on 22 minutes, while Sepana Letsoalo ensured a share of the spoils with his 54th-minute penalty
The result left Chiefs in ninth place on the DStv Premiership standings with 29 points from 25 games - three adrift of TS Galaxy in the eighth spot.
Speaking after the game, Hunt told SuperSport TV: "Well, it's the story of our season. It's the old adage - strikers win your games, and defenders win your leagues. Not that we try to defend, but we concede goals every week. It's been poor.
"We have to get better. We work on it all the time. Lots of individual stuff."
Despite the result, Hunt still felt his side played 'well'.
"But I'm proud of the players. They played well today. We've been playing well this whole season. Even the games we've lost or drawn, we've played well, created chances.
"I mean, we created enough chances today to win three games of football. The first half could have been 4-0. We had so many opportunities.
"But I mean, I'm proud of the players. I can't ask for more. They give me everything they've got."
Chiefs are back in action on Tuesday against TTM.
Kick-off is at 17:00.
