Gurgaon: As the city is grappling with cases rising on a daily basis, many residents are taking to the social media to post SOS requests seeking plasma for their loved ones. Many good Samaritans have come forward not only to donate plasma but are also encouraging others, who have recovered from Covid-19, to do so as well.
Upkar Sharma (44) and Akanksha Pundhir (45), a couple residing in DLF-1, are among the donors who are setting up an example by helping out those who are struggling with the infection. “I had tested positive in September last year and recovered by early October. My husband, too, recovered last month. We decided that we’ll do our bit for the patients who are still suffering,” Pundhir said.
The couple donated plasma last week.
Pundhir further said that there are lot of misconceptions about plasma donation. “I saw a post on social media from a person, who was looking for plasma donors. The blood group required matched mine, so I reached out him and went to the private hospital where his relative was admitted. The entire process was simple. I am trying to motivate others by breaking the barriers in their mindsets and am also in touch with various social organisations, who are arranging plasma donation camp,” she added.
Similarly, Dinesh Rawat (39), a resident of BPTP Astaire Garden, donated plasma eight days ago. “I had tested positive in November last year, so when a NGO reached out to me, I decided to help them. I was told that two youth need plasma immediately, and their blood group matched with mine. Those who are eligible should donate plasma as it is easy and safe. It hardly takes 40 minutes for complete transfusion.”
Rawat is now collecting data in his society and social circles of those who are infected and is encouraging others to donate.
