Volkswagen unveiled the facelift of the Tiguan last month. The SUV was expected to launch in May’21. However, as per new reports, the launch of the Tiguan Facelift has been postponed to June’21. The Tiguan is the 5-seater flagship of Volkswagen. It will be going against the Citroen C5 AirCross as it should be priced around Rs. 28 lakhs ex-showroom. The launch of the SUV has been done probably because of the current COVID-19 situation that our country is facing. Volkswagen is not the only manufacturer to postpone the launch of its vehicle. Hyundai and Skoda have also postponed the launch of their vehicles.
Volkswagen discontinued the Tiguan last year because of the BS6 emission norms. Rather than launching a model that complies with the BS6 emission norms, VW decided to launch a new facelift of the Tiguan in our country which is a good thing. The Tiguan now looks much more modern because of the updates that it had gone through the exterior and the interior.
The front fascia of the Tiguan has been updated with sleeker twin-pod LED headlamps with LED Daytime Running Lamps. There are also LED tail lamps and LED Cornering Lamps. It now also features IQ.Lights with adaptive control. There is also a redesigned front bumper. At the side, there are new 18-inch alloy wheels, shark-fin antenna and roof rails. The LED tail lamps have also been redone slightly to look more modern. There is also a new rear bumper and there is ‘Tiguan’ spelt out on the tailgate.

Then we come to the interior which is also new for 2021. It gets illuminated scuff plates and gear knob, Vienna leather upholstery, ambient lighting with 30 colours, three-zone climate control, electric adjustment for the driver seat with three memory function and much more. Volkswagen is also offering digital cockpit instead of a regular instrument cluster and a new touchscreen infotainment system which will come with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It will also come with new touch controls for the air conditioning.
The manufacturer will also be offering ‘My Volkswagen connect’ connected car technology and there will also be app connectivity. The flat-bottom steering wheel and the armrest are also wrapped in leather. For safety, it will come with ABS with EBD, Stability program, Tyre pressure monitoring system, driver alert system, 6 airbags, hill start assist and hill decent control. There is also a panoramic sunroof that will let in a lot of light to the cabin that will brighten up the black cabin. There will also be a multi-function steering wheel, rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlamps, rear wiper with washer, high-mounted stop lamp and much more.
The SUV will also come with a new 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine that replaces the old 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine. The diesel engine used to produce 140 PS of max power and a peak torque output of 340 Nm whereas the new petrol engine is more powerful. The TSI petrol engine produces 190 PS of max power and 320 Nm of peak torque. The engine will come mated to a 7-speed DSG Dual-Clutch automatic gearbox. The power is sent to all four wheels through 4Motion all-wheel-drive technology.
