As per the divorce thread.
I understand women's nature and understand they decide to leave you a long time before they actually do..But they completely switch and act like you meant nothing to them.
You could spend years with a women, being with her, supporting her, only for her to one day turn around and just leave and none of that meant **** all.
It's just very difficult to fathom.

A lot of their hamster brain reasoning has to do with guilt and regret. they are both very negative emotions that can be debilitating to them, so they will do whatever mental gymnastics they can to avoid feeling those emotions, and there fore blame the husband.
She cheats, doesn't want to feel guilty about it, so she blames him for driving her into the arms of another man, then dumps him so she won't ever have to face that it wasn't his fault, because that would make her feel guilty and regret it.
That's the whole issue with "But we were broken up then!" strategy to where she finds someone else she wants to hook up with, so she "needs some space" and temporarily dumps her boyfreind, then sleeps around, then gets back together, and if he finds out, she is not guilty because "we were broken up then!"

My guess would be she does feel empathy, but the viciousness she exhibits and the seemingly blatant lack of respect she has for you, is some kind of mechanism she uses to convince herself she's doing the "right" thing. It's like when you are a little chitty with someone who probably didn't deserve it, so you find ways to rationalize it in your head with "Yeah, well he probably didn't earn the money he spent on that car anyways... so that's why I keyed it" so you feel better about it. Remember that when a woman files for divorce, she is the victim, and all her anger is just a reaction to whatever you did to make her want to file. Not srs.

Girls are generally far better at looking out for #1. Whether it's a product of the environment we live in with females still being exposed to the realities of mortality through being more involved in birth etc, they much more readily understand that nothing matters when we're six feet under the ground except what we did for ourselves. Guys tend to be more oblivious.
Long story short: always look out for your best interests above all else, and this is coincidentally also what females tend to want in relationships. If you operate with this in mind while not really anticipating it but knowing anything can happen, you'll be in a much better position.
