RAJKOT: The city police on Friday arrested an attendant of the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay (PDU) Hospital (Rajkot civil hospital) for allegedly raping a 55-year-old who was admitted for post-Covid complications. The 36-year-old attendant was arrested based on the complaint lodged by the woman who was under treatment on the fourth floor of the hospital. The woman had alleged that she was raped post Wednesday midnight by a man in a PPE kit. The attendant has been working in the civil hospital for the past six months on contractual basis. In her complaint, the woman said that she was unable to sleep because of a severe headache. “The attendant came and inquired about her health and offered to massage her head. He then switched off the lights and raped me,” the FIR registered in the offence states. “There were three other patients in the ward. Two are in critical condition, so they could not be questioned and the third patient told us that he was fast asleep and didn’t know anything about the alleged incident,” said inspector LL Chavda of Pradhyumannagar police station. Further probe has been handed over to the Women’s police station.
