Double whammy in Ghaziabad: 1,375 fresh cases & 17 deaths in a day

Ghaziabad/Noida: With 1,375 fresh cases and 17 deaths, Ghaziabad on Friday recorded the highest single day cases and most number of deaths in a day. The month has proven to be the worst in terms of number of cases and deaths.
While in the district till date recorded 39,751 cases, 12,540 were reported in April alone. Similarly, of the total 206 deaths, 106 were reported in April.
On three days in April, the daily cases breached the 1,000 mark. On April 22, 1,023 cases were reported while on April 27, 1068 cases were recorded and again on the last day of the month, the district saw the highest single day cases at 1,375. A total of nine days in April have reported more than 500 cases in a day.
Similarly, in terms of daily deaths, Ghaziabad saw double digits for four days in a row from April 27.
The second half of the month has been the worst with 83% of cases being reported from April 16 to April 30. Of the total 12,540 cases reported in April, 10430 were recorded in the last 15 days.
In terms of deaths, 98% of the toll was reported in the second half of April. Of the total 106 deaths, 104 were reported between April 16 and April 30.
Active cases have also been on a rise in the district and on Friday there were 6,645 active cases while only 697 people were discharged on the say. Till date, 32900 people have been discharged.
Meanwhile, Noida recorded 1,310 new Covid cases and 10 deaths on Friday. While most of the deaths were allegedly due to shortage of oxygen supply, officials denied the same.
The total cases in the district have gone up to 41,312 on Friday. Of the total, 8,267 are active cases.
On the bright side, 1,163 patients got discharged during the period with the overall recoveries reaching 32,833 in the district, the fifth highest in the state. Noida now has a toll of 212 with a mortality rate of 0.5%. The recovery rate of patients reached 79.4% from 79.1% the previous day, the statistics showed.
