Kieron Pollard blasted 87 from 34 deliveries as Mumbai Indians chased down 218 to beat the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by four wickets in a gripping IPL clash on Saturday.

The big Trinidadian destroyed Lungi Ngidi's final over, hitting two boundaries and a six en route to getting the 16 runs required for a sensational victory at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Pollard and Krunal Pandya (32) put on 89 for the fourth wicket and he was then helped by Hardik Pandya who made 16 from seven balls as Mumbai fought their way back.

The Windies' limited-overs captain said he knew he would be facing some spin on the small Delhi ground when he first arrived at the crease and "looked to hit some sixes".

Three balls from one Ravindra Jadeja over went into the empty stands.

Earlier, Faf du Plessis cashed in on his great form by scoring another half-century off 28 balls to help CSK to 218/4 - what looked a highly competitive score at that point.

However, Quinton de Kock's 38 and Rohit Sharma's 35 laid the platform for Pollard to launch late on.

Du Plessis, a respected fielder, dropped Pollard on the boundary and the reprieved batsman admitted that the South African had done him "a favour" as Mumbai pulled off the second highest run chase in the IPL.
