Hyderabad: The Center for Dalit Studies has asked the Telangana Police to provide assistance and applaud the services of those working in crematoria and cemeteries where possible.
Mallepalli Laxmaiah, chairman of the center, in a letter to Mahender Reddy, director general of police, brought to his attention a video on social media about policemen handling two crematorium workers who went to eat.
‘The absolute lack of care and concern for them underscores the marginalization they face. “In these times, when health care is too much and the death toll has only become a statistic, the suffering is borne by unprepared and ignored cemetery / cemetery workers, as a rising death toll demands their physical and mental well-being,” he wrote.
“In these difficult times, the law enforcement agency and the government must ensure that they are provided with sufficient assistance. They must also be treated as essential workers and must obtain identity cards to prevent unlawful actions by the police. These unsung heroes should be praised for their work, ” he said, and also asked for protection, and in case of illness, treatment also for such workers.
