Sangareddy: With the declining slogan ‘Bring Back Sparrows’, the Animal Warriors Conservation Society (AWCS) has installed more than 1,640 pieces in Hyderabad and surrounding areas over a three-year period. In a community effort to preserve the sparrows, the AWCS launched the distribution of the nest boxes, which cost them approximately Rs 100 free of charge, to citizens who were willing to be part of the effort.
The AWCS, an Ameenpur-based organization working for the conservation of wildlife and animals in Telangana and other parts of the country, has decided to take up the conservation of house sparrows in and around Hyderabad.
Pradeep Nair, founder of AWCS, told Telangana Today that the concrete structures in urban areas are not suitable for building nests, which they devised with the “Bring Back Sparrows” project.
After Pradeep Nair determined that the house sparrows were not finding enough breeding grounds, they said they would install these snippets over a period of three years in residences of some selected citizens in Ameenpur, Lingampally, Gachibowli, Alwal, Dilsukhnagar, Chikkadapally and other areas. has. years. Since sparrows would live near human dwellings, he said they installed the debris in homes of civilians who volunteered to be part of their effort to increase the Mossie population. He further added that organizations like Forest Academy Dulapally, Wipro Gachibowli and Shanti Sarovar Gachibowli have voluntarily stepped forward to be part of their effort.
The AWCS founder said that during the month of April they visited the eighteen places to investigate whether the Sparrows use the nest blocks for their breeding. He further said that the residents told them that the nests had been used four to five times. Since the Sparrows had the best places for nesting, Nair said that the population of the Sparrows has now increased significantly in these areas. As the Sparrows nest in the safest nest, Nair said the survival rate of the chicks is very high. Since we designed these nests this way, he said that no bird of prey or snake can get into these nests. Nair said they will maintain the nests regularly, and said they will clean the nest blocks after each breeding to prevent overfilling with the nest material. Nair called on the people to take part in their “Bring Back Sparrows” project by installing nest boxes in their residences and making donations to buy the nest boxes.
