HUBBALLI: Amidst the second wave of the pandemic, RK Khadi Gramodyog and Education Society’s campaign to distribute eco-friendly khadi masks has met with an overwhelmingly positive response with more than two lakh masks being sold in Karnataka and in several districts of Maharashtra such as Pune and Solapur. Among the reasons for the popularity of these masks is the modest price they are being sold at: Rs 10. The makers have decided against hiking the price of the masks, which are available in three different designs. Director of Educational Society of Hubballi Raghavendra Mutalik Desai, a khadi worker himself, said that demand for Indian khadi masks had witnessed a decline for a brief period but the spurt in cases pushed the demand up again. “We are prepared to meet the rising demand for our masks,” Desai said. He said that more than eight khadi workers had been working with him to make masks. “Members of my family have also pitched in to help increase production. The response to our masks has prompted other khadi organisations to start producing them,” Desai added. Protecting people from the infection was the primary objective, he added.
