Panchkula, April 30
At least 14 people who had died of Covid-19 were cremated at the Sector 28 crematorium here even as the LPG chamber at the Sector 20 crematorium started operations today.
The cremation of those dying of Covid was held for the first time at the Sector 28 facility. This was done to ease the burden of the Sector 20 crematorium, which has witnessed a significant increase in daily cremations.
Forty cremations can now be held at the Sector 28 crematorium with the horticulture wing of the Municipal Corporation clearing the wild growth from the cremation platforms which were not in use earlier. These platforms, however, are in the open and without sheds.
Currently there are four sheds at the Sector 28 crematorium, each having space for cremating four bodies at a time. However, one of the sheds will be reserved for keeping wood and other material.
