Faridkot, April 30

As the hospitals and medical institutions are scrambling to maintain a steady supply of medical oxygen for Covid-19 patients, making amendments to its existing rules for minimum requirement for starting MBBS course, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has made it compulsory for all medical college hospitals to set up pressure swing adsorption (PSA) oxygen units in their campuses.

As per directions issued by the NMC, the arrangements have to be made within the next six months to establish PSA in all medical colleges.

Costing about Rs 35 lakh, a PSA oxygen plant employs a technology that absorbs nitrogen from ambient air to concentrate oxygen for supply to hospitals. — TNS
