Marathwada region registers 7,197 Covid cases, 155 fatalities

Aurangabad, May 1 (UNI) Covid situation continues to remain grim in the eight districts of the Marathwada region of Maharashtra as the region recorded the highest spike of 7,197 Covid positive cases and fresh 155 fatalities were reported in the past 24 hours, according to the health authorities.



Details from all the district headquarters collected by UNI show that out of the eight districts of the region, Latur district was the worst-affected as it recorded the highest number with 958 cases and 30 deaths, followed by Aurangabad had 1,266 cases 28 deaths, Beed had 1,520 cases and 25 deaths, Nanded with 665 new cases and 21 deaths, Osmanabad 900 cases and 19 deaths, Parbhani had 928 cases and 17 deaths, Jalna registered 683 cases and 10 deaths and Hingoli 277 cases and 5 deaths.



Meanwhile, during the past 24 hours, 62,919 fresh cases of COVID-19 were recorded across the state, mounting the total number of infections to 46,02,477.

The state also registered 828 more deaths, taking the death toll to 68,813.

Meanwhile, a record 69,710 patients were recovered in the state, taking the total number of recoveries to 3,68,976.

The state's recovery rate currently stands at 84.6 per cent and the fatality rate is 1.5 per cent.

At present, there are 6,62,640 active patients across the state undergoing treatment at different COVID-19 centres and hospitals, they added.



In view of the rising number of cases, the state government has extended strict restrictions in the state till May 15 under the initiative of 'break the chain’, exempting emergency services.
