Yediyurappa symbolically launches Covid vaccine drive for 18 and above

Bengaluru, May 1 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Saturday symbolically launched Covid vaccine drive for 18 to 44 year aged.

In a simple ceremony at Vajpayee Medical College Hospital here, the Chief Minister declared open the vaccine drive.

Speaking on the occasion he said that the government intends to vaccinate 3.56 crore people in the age of 18 to 44 years across the state besides the vaccination for above 45 years have been continued.

He said that people should register their names and wait for their term to come and cooperate with the government in this campaign.

He said the state government has already ordered one crore vaccines and expects supply shortly.

He was reacting to the Centre's directive on allowing vaccinating people above 18 years from May 1. "Our Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar has said clearly that the vaccine has not been supplied yet. We will vaccinate people once it arrives," he said.

He dismissed charges that it was a failure on the part of the government for not getting the vaccine beforehand. "Where is the question of failure? We had thought we would get the vaccine (on time) but there is a delay in the supply," he said.

He said we have one lakh vaccines in stock and three lakhs arrived with a total of four lakh vaccines are ready. The process of vaccination continues till the stock clears.
